Secures the wash basket to the center shaft. Replace if stripped, cracked, or missing to prevent tub movement and noise. Left-hand thread design.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Maytag clothes washer always had a terrible smell Steve S. • Scott Afb , IL • January 10, 2015
I took the wash basket out of the tub to remove all the sludge and scale that had accumulated over the years. But I did not have a spanner wrench to remove the large nut holding the basket to the center shaft. No problem - I used a hammer and chisel on the ears. But didn't realize it was a LEFT HAND THREAD!! That's when the nut split in two and I had no choice but to purchase another. Long story short, it's back together and the washer doesn't smell anymore. Live and learn...

Fix water leaking onto the floor or uneven tub filling with this upper water injector. Directs inlet water cleanly into the tub. Easy DIY replacement.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Broken injector Matt M. • Wheat Ridge , CO • June 28, 2019
An easy fix for the most part. I had no idea what I was doing, but glad I bought both upper and lower injectors. Not sure why these are separate parts? Cheap plastic. I did not get the hose clamp because I didn't think I would need it. You probably do, so go ahead and just order it or grab one if you have one laying around. Mine is hooked up without it for now which I'm sure I will regret later but I needed to get our washer running immediately due to a bed bug situation in our house.

Washer would only spin. Byron V. • Bellevue , MI • February 04, 2020
Found the wonderful parts diagrams you most generously share online and a couple of YouTube videos . I determined it should be repairable.
In my cast the agitator shaft was frozen (rusted) in place. I was very fortunate to have been able to eventually remove it with the use of a lot of BP penetrating oil and heat.
Long and short the replacement parts fit perfectly and the washer is running like new.
Special thanks to the online support make my repair possible.

Transmission shaft floated up while doing a load of wash then the agitator would not turn Larry A. • Rockford , IL • February 28, 2017
Removed the agitator, then the spacer and lock screw, then the inside tub, then the mounting stem
I replaced the agitator collar to fix the issue
The hardest part on this project was removing the locks with the spanner wrench. It is not easy to break loose if the machine has never been repaired in 15 years. You need the rubber hammer and really hit hard to get loose. This is what took the longest. (Approximately 1 hour for me)

The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly includes two switches, a bracket, and a fuse. It is responsible for detecting whether the lid is securely shut, allowing the washer to proceed with the selected wash cycles.
Causes of a faulty or damaged lid switch assembly can include regular use, wear and tear, or electrical malfunctions. These factors can result in issues such as the washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle, safety concerns if the washer operates with the lid open, or error codes indicating lid switch failure.
Symptoms of a bad lid switch assembly may include:
- The washer not starting or not responding when the lid is closed
- The washer stopping mid-cycle or not completing the wash cycle
- Error codes indicating a problem with the lid switch
This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Old Maytag top load washer would fill but won't agitate, spin or dump water George M. • Chicago , IL • May 05, 2019
We were concerned, to put it mildly.
Our legacy washing machine, over 30 years old, had finally bitten the dust. Didn't spin, didn't agitate. The water filled up, and just sat there, getting old and gross. Now we on the hook for a new washer that we couldn't afford right now. $600-$700, plus installation.
Or were we?
My wife submitted our problem and details to the forums here at appliance parts pro, hoping for a reply within a few days. In less than 2 hrs (at 2 in the morning!), Jake...
