Took the front panel off (the door front), disconnected the connector to the door switch and used a wooden clothespin to bypass the door switch. Turned on the dryer to locate loud squeaking sound and found it was coming from the motor area. Just opened up wire connections on all three (after taking pictures, since schematic was skewed) solenoid could and did a continuity check as one of them came back negative and just replaced it...all is working again. Read more

This was a Maytag DE312 actually a Whirlpool labeled as Maytag) and is 27 years old. Replaced motor, drive belt and drum rollers. One tricky part was the motor because the new motor comes with integral starter and it was necessary to cut off existing female spade connectors on some wires and crimp on new connectors. New lint screen and felt seal, new blower seal for good measure. The Maycor adhesive is well worth it....appears to be the same as original OEM used. Our machines are over 30 years old, and both work well, so if yours are still serviceable, the wear items [seals, belts, idler bearings] are worth replacing, I think. Read more
