I removed and inspected the lid magnet. It had a 1/8" layer of corrosion. I removed the layer of corrosion and reinstalled the part. the symptom improved. That was a stop-gap repair until the new lid magnet arrived. The broken rubber isolators were discovered when I removed the top of the washing machine. Read more

Replaced both switch and knob. BE SURE TO UNPLUG! Remove knob by removing clip on timer shaft between knob and control panel with needle nose pliers . Remove back of control panel (three 1/4" head screws), push plastic control panel forward enough to get access, unclip wiring harness, remove one 1/4" head screw holding timer, slightly twist timer to release tabs, and remove.
