Microwave not heating or making loud humming noise? The high-voltage capacitor supplies power to the magnetron. DIY repair in under an hour.
I ordered a new magnetron and a new capacitor and after they arrived I set to work. I took plenty of pictures with my phone to remind me how the components came apart but it was pretty straight forward. Once the new parts were in and everything was reassembled the microwave worked good as new. The repair was less than a third the cost of replacement and no special tools are required. Just be careful to discharge the capacitor. This website is a great resource. Read more

Brought a mounting bracket and i installed it. The difficulty came in finding the location of the top holes in the microwave. If your microwave powers on but won't heat food, the magnetron likely failed. This high-voltage tube generates microwave energy. Moderate DIY repair.
I looked up the problem on the Appliance Pros forum and it sounded like the magnetron needed to be replaced. We looked up and ordered the part from Appliance Pros and replaced the magnetron 2 days later when we received it. It was not a difficult replacement but was tume consuming to take it down and remove the cover to get to the part. Within about 90 minutes, we had our microwave back on duty! Read more

The grill vent is only held in place by two screws. Super simple fix. Remove the two screws and the old grill vent, position the new vent and put the two screws back in. Replacing the cord required that cabinet to be removed. Lots of screws on the back, top and bottom. Once the screws were removed, the cabinet pulled back. Removed unit from wall and took outer shell off, de-energized capacitor and then took a multi-meter and tested all the High voltage parts and magnetron. They tested out fine other than the diode and then I looked at the "Safety" circuit if you will the power loop that goes through door switches and thermostats to energize the High Voltage transformer and magnetron. Turns out the thermostat that is on the side of the magnetron wasn't closed, so I took a butane torch and heated it up past the... Read more
