Peter M Novi , MI July 26, 2015 Appliance: KitchenAid 30" Electric Built-In Ceran Cooktop KECC508RPB00 Cracked glass cooktop with surface touch control (1) Put on leather work gloves (2) Lifted cooktop box out of countertop and using wood slats rested cooktop off surface (the thin 1/16 gasket that glass was resting on was in good shape so didn't need to replace (3) Unscrewed 8 screws on metal flange holding cooktop glass surface to cooktop box (4) glass cooktop and flange easily lifted off (5) there was a plastic three prong alignment pin glued to cooktop glass that probably was just there to keep box controls aligned during shipping. I pried the plastic alignment pin off the old broken glass cooktop using putty knife and put the alignment pins in the holes of the control box (probably not necessary as this part was not listed in the parts diagram of the cooktop). (6) the touch sensors on the control box are suspended on springs so that when glass cooktop is replaced they rest against the glass. (6) Placed glass cooktop on cooktop box the flanges of the replacement cooktop glass fit perfectly around the cooktop box.. (7) Put the 8 screws back (8) Gently lowered the cooktop back into the countertop opening by removing one slat at a time. Al Pulis P Ridgedale , MO May 08, 2017 Cracked top needed replaced for ten years so with mother's day coming :) This is a very easy replacement BUT ONLY after you understand that the stove top is just held in by gravity and all you have to do to access it is to push it up from below and support on the countertop with two small boards. If you don't know this you can spend a lot of time trying to get started. Very easy repair after it is property repositioned for the replacement. Read More... Chapin W Seattle , WA August 26, 2021 Appliance: Model W10140999 (AP4358803) The cooktop cracked after it was about 10 years old only because I was boiling a pot of water Turned off power at box. Removed drawer below cooktop. Used screwdriver to remove two brackets holding cooktop fastened to underside of countertop. Lifted cooktop out of counter hole and pivoted it around on countertop (used towels to protect countertop) so I could work on it (unit is hardwired so could not unplug it and move it to a workspace). Used screwdriver to remove 10 screws, pulling cooktop (glass, frame and epoxied metal border) free from lower portion containing ceramic heat units. Fairly easy to remove glass and border from frame. Much more difficult to remove border from glass (used long screwdriver to pry it up). Took border outside and cleaned old epoxy off of border using Goo Off. Epoxied border to new glass piece and clamped to set. Reattached to frame. Affixed new foam tape (purchased separately at local hardware store) to under edge. Reattached frame to lower portion. Repositioned unit in counter hole. Reattached brackets and put drawer back in. Recommended purchase of seal was not used, so returned it. I would buy a new border next time, because removing and cleaning it was too much time and effort. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours Tools: Screwdrivers
