Jason F Towson , MD June 27, 2016 Appliance: Model KTCRC22EKL00 The magnetic gasket around my freezer was not keeping the door closed The gasket on my freezer door was not holding the door closes. When the main door closed, the pressure which shifts to the freezer was popping the door open and it was not closing because the magnet had lost its' mojo. I watched the video for the replacement of the gasket on the freezer door and my experience was exactly the same. One area that you should be mindful of: the depth of the fin on the replacement gasket is short, so do not make the slot of this fin too deep. When you are preparing slot in the door for the replacement fin, you should use a thin putty knife to ensure that the interior spray foam and adhesive from the original gasket is clear so that the new rigid plastic fin can be placed. This step is key but do not expand the slot too much or stretch it open. The replacement gasket has a short fin which is fine, but if you loosen the slot for the fin too much, it will not hold the fin as firmly as possible. Basically: look at the fin and try not to use your putty knife any deeper than the fin will enter into the slot. When I installed my gasket, the door would not close properly. The gasket was too big/thick/expanded and I almost panicked. I took a moment, looked it over and decided that the gasket was installed correctly and all that needed to happen was to let the gasket get properly seated. I used three strips of tape to tightly hold the door closed. As my 18 year old daughter walked by, she mumbled, "nice ghetto fridge, dad!". Ouch. I waited 24 hours, removed the tape and the gasket had compressed properly and not the door works perfectly. Thanks to Appliance Parts Pros for the video, excellent customer service and great replacement part. You have kept my fridge alive for several more years!
