By: Bosch
Part Number: OEM17074455
Manufacturer Part Number: 00753257

The Spark Module is an OEM part Bosch ranges and cooktops. This electronic part generates the high-voltage spark needed to reliably ignite the gas burners with the push of a button.

Causes can be issues like component failure over the thousands of ignitions it facilitates. Water ingress could also potentially cause problems.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Unreliable or intermittent burner ignition requiring multiple ignition button presses
  • One or more burners that will not ignite at all
  • Occasionally flashing or error codes relating to ignition issues

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Perry for Model Number PCS484GG

I have two XLO burners, The rear one works fine. The front one stopped sparking. After a few years of trying, I was finally able to locate a new spark electrode and installed today. Now front XLO burner sparks and lights but shuts off after about 5 seconds with a pop. Sounds like the solenoid is shutting down. I read that its probably the potentiometer. But the original had been discontinued. What potentiometer can I use as a replacement and must it match the one on the rear burner (working)? Do I need to upgrade the simmer control too? Would love to try 00422748 or 00422749 to replace my 189816 but that seems like a bad idea. What are my options?

Answer

Perry, this failure can be caused by a failing potentiometer, a failing simmer control, or a failing solenoid. With the gas supply off, the solenoid can be tested for DC voltage to identify if it receives a continuous DC voltage or not. If not, the potentiometer 00189816 would be the most likely cause. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued and is no longer available.
