Larry A. I purchased a PTC starter which has three terminals to replace my one terminal part. Does this three terminal starter include the overload protector? The overload protector is a separate component on my fridge. Can you provide instructions to convert the fridge from a one terminal starter to a three terminal starter. Thanks, Larry
Answer Hello Larry, This is a relay only. The overload is separate from this part. This relay has three terminals to accommodate the installation of a capacitor. Whether a capacitor is used or not, you will plug the single wire to terminal number 2. This should be the terminal directly across from terminal 4. The capacitor, (when required by the manufacturer), would plug in with one wire on terminal 1 and the other wire on terminal 3. A capacitor is only used for a compressor that comes with the capacitor. I tell you this to prevent you from installing a capacitor on a compressor that doesn't call for it. If you use a capacitor on a compressor that isn't supposed to have one, the windings in the compressor will burn out prematurely. Read More...
