Hello David, Green is always chassis ground in appliances. The chassis ground is there so if a hot wire contacts ground, the breaker will discontinue power to the unit instead of allowing voltage to ride on the chassis until someone touches it and becomes the ground that opens the breaker. Be aware that on some models, there may be a copper strap that goes from the center terminal to ground. On this design, the green wire can be connected with the white on the center terminal. If there is no strap to ground from the center terminal, the green wire has to be grounded at the screw hole with the ground symbol ? beside it.
