Answer JC, No there should be no need to change or replace a top burner valve when performing a conversion from Nat gas to LP gas. The only parts needed should be the LP gas orifice(s) and "flipping" the regulator cap 5304521339 to the LP position. It sounds like you forgot to flip the regulator cap.
