Bill for Model Number Frigidaire Upright Freezer Model FFU2065FW2 I noticed my freezer was not as cold as before (some food items not firmly frozen) and dial thermometer was showing 10 degrees and digital was showing 22 degrees on an upper shelf. I turned temp. From 3 to 4 and noticed no change. Then turned it to 6 and no change. I checked the evaporator coil and observed the defrost thermostat was covered with ice and only a couple inches of an upper portion of evaporator had ice. The defrost heater was glowing red. I tested the defrost thermostat with an ohmmeter and it tested okay. I unplugged the freezer for a few days and turned it back on and tested the thermistor using the thermostat buttons and observed a “-“ symbol, which from what I read indicates the thermistor is okay. Which leads me to believe it is either the main control board or the refrigeration system. I also noticed that the compressor has been running continuously and the temperature in the freezer is 28 degrees. I read that the main control has a fail safe mode in which if it fails, the compressor will run continuously and every 12 hours will go into defrost mode for 30 minutes and then continue running. My question is if the main control board (thermostat) fails to operate to change temperature of the freezer, and the fail safe mode operates the compressor continuously, wouldn’t the temperature inside the freezer drop to 0 degrees or colder ? If yes, am I correct in assuming that my refrigeration system has developed a leak preventing the freezer temperature from dropping low enough to keep food frozen? Thanks for your assistance.
Answer Hello Bill, based on the symptoms the freezer has a sealed system problem, most likely a freon leak. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, October 26, 2020
