Lewis for Model Number FAFW4011LW0

My washer would not start, diagnostics showed error EA3. Voltage was correct at the wall and also at the control board. I installed a new main board and received error E41. I could not hear the lock attempting to close and a peak inside showed a broken wire , so a new door switch was installed. I also put the original main board back in. When the washer was plugged in there was a pop and nothing worked. I installed the new control board and plugged the machine in without incident. It stopped in the middle of the first load of washing. I was not present, so do not know what part of its cycle it was in when it failed. It does not respond to the buttons or knob and the control panel stays dark. I looked for a short or other cause of damage to the two boards. The main suspect is the motor, resistance in the windings is 3.4 ohms (The tech sheet specifies 5.3 ohms) and two of the motor connections show some connection to ground when the motor is turned by hand. Are those acceptable conditions for the motor or should it be replaced?

Answer

Lewis, With the reading that you are getting on the motor if testing between pins 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 1 to 3 the resistance would be normal. If you are getting a grounded reading then the motor would be faulty and need replaced. The issue of no display would most likely be caused by a faulty display control board with the main board being new.
