Dray for Model Number Frigidaire FRS26F4CB0 Will the AP5176342 fix my unit? The technician already replaced the two thermostats, AP211625, and AP2151626. I hope these are the same thermostat's that is shipped with your AP5176342. His thermostats could have been bad. If not them I'm just attempting repairs in the dark. Would I be better off to order your part where it would have everything in it and fix my problem? The thermostat's were located up directly behind the control knobs for the freezer and refrigerator controls. He also replaced the board inside of the control box assembly. But I still have the same problem. It's reading below freezing on the refrigerator side and freezing my drinking water. Sometimes the freezer temperature will drop very low but it is still freezing.
Answer Hello Dray, If the technician has already changed the parts you mentioned, the parts are more than likely good. I would be more likely to suspect that the damper assembly linkage is binding or inoperative. It doesn't sound like the thermostats were the issue to begin with as if the items in the bottom of the fresh food section are freezing, this is the indication of an air circulation issue. Before you buy any parts, pull the bottom drawers out and make sure that the air return duct is clear. If it is, try setting the fresh food compartment temperature colder and the freezer warmer. You see, the knee jerk reaction to the fresh food section freezing is to set the temperature in that compartment warmer. This is backwards to the design of the unit. Think of it this way: When the thermostats are satisfied, the fans are turned off. Since cold air is heavier than warm air, the cold air drops to the bottom of the unit. If the thermostats are set to a temperature where they are not kicking on, the fans stay off. If the issue is freezing in the bottom of the fresh food compartment, this indicates that the thermostats are satisfied too long and the fans need to be energized to circulate the air more often. Therefore, if you set the freezer to 0° to 10°F without ever dropping below 0°F, and you set the fresh food section at 35° to 38°F with a freezer thermometer, the thermostats should operate properly and kick the fans on often enough to prevent the cold air migration backwards through the air return port into the bottom of the fresh food section. It is very common for folks to make the mistake of setting the fresh food section warmer when items in the crisper drawers and the water tank is freezing, when in fact this is the reverse of what needs to be done to correct the issue. If the temperature adjustments do not solve the issue, at that time I would replace the damper assembly, (which is included in the control box kit 5304482075). It is the part that should have been changed to begin with from the way I understand your initial complaint. I hope I stated this in a way that you understand and I have not just added confusion to your issue. Please let me know if I can assist you any further as I want your issue to be resolved.
