Answer Ray, The unit does not use the compressor during the heat cycle. This is a straight cool compressor. The unit has a heating element mounted in front of the evaporator that comes on during the heat selection cycle. If the compressor is coming on during the heating cycle then you would have a bad control board. This issue would be caused by a relay for the compressor sticking. and the control board would need to be replaced.
