Karen L. Trying to replace small front radiant element: part number 316010205 (AP2123825). My stove is a Kenmore but your cross-reference database recommended this Frigidaire part and the parts diagram looks like the one included with my Kenmore. I am pretty skilled at this sort of thing and anticipated no problems. However, the two screws that hold the cooktop in place have proved to be recalcitrant. They are tightly set and not moving. I tried heating the oven, just to see if the expansion would affect the screws but no luck. Then I tried WD 40 but it did not help even after sitting over night. Ditto for Liquid Wrench. Also, the screw heads are all-but-stripped (phillips heads), so someone has tried getting the cooktop off before. I have no way of knowing if they were successful or not. Should I just try to drill the screws out, or is there something else to try first? Thanks for your time and assistance. Karen
Answer Karen, You've tried all the basics and will need to drill out the screws that secure the cooktop to the oven cabinet frame. Once you drill out the screws and extract them from the cooktop (use a pair of needle nose pliers) take the screw to the local hardware store and replace them with 1/4 inch hex head screws, with matching threads and length. That way you can remove the top with a wrench if needed. Nost manufacturers have updated their products using the hex head screws. Read More...
