The Agitator Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This part moves clothes through the water and detergent during the wash cycle. This part ensures thorough cleaning by creating the necessary motion to distribute and cleanse laundry evenly.

Causes of a bad Agitator Assembly can range from wear and tear over extended use, to damage from overloading the washing machine, or even issues with the drive mechanism that powers the agitator's motion.

Symptoms of a bad Agitator Assembly include:

  • Clothes coming out of the wash still dirty or not as clean as expected
  • The washing machine making unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • The agitator not moving during the cycle or moving erratically

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Helen for Model Number GE Model WCSR2080B2WW

I just purchased a new agitator and a new coupling for my machine; however, when the parts came the coupling was attached at the bottom of the agitator and If I try slipping it over the semi long screw that is in the base of the machine I will not be able to turn the new screw because it is too far down and my hand and tool will not fit. If I use the coupler kit, I have a different problem, I cannot dislodge the coupler that is already attached to the agitator. What do I do?

Answer

Helen, the agitator is designed so that the bolt goes through both the agitator and coupling. A socket extension is going to be the easiest way to install this part.
