Manufacturer Part Number: WH43X10034

The Agitator Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This essential component is responsible for moving clothes during the wash cycle, ensuring thorough cleaning by continually shifting the laundry within the drum. The agitator's design includes fins or vanes that help to circulate water and detergent through the clothes, effectively removing dirt without causing excessive wear to the fabric.

Symptoms of a bad Agitator Assembly include:

  • The agitator not moving or only moving weakly during the wash cycle.
  • Unusual noises like grinding or thumping indicating mechanical issues.
  • Clothes coming out still dirty or less clean than expected, suggesting insufficient agitation.
  • The top portion of the agitator moving independently from the base, known as "stripped" agitator dogs.

Causes of a bad agitator can include worn out mechanical parts such as gears or bearings, a damaged drive shaft, or the agitator becoming detached from the transmission due to loosening of the securing bolt.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models,

Pro Tip: When replacing the agitator, also consider replacing the agitator coupling (WH49X10042).

Alta for Model Number GJXRP080DAWW

My agitator coupling bolt got loose, the agitator coupling is attached to the agitator and the complete assembly (agitator with the coupling) is out of the machine. The agitator coupling threads are worn out, I would need to replace it. The problem I am facing is how to remove the agitator coupling from the agitator. I see in some of the video they ask to put the complete assembly on the ground and hit the agitator coupling from top, however in my assembly I dont have access to the agitator coupling from top. The top part of the agitator is screwed to the bottom with four screws/bolts from underneath. Can you please suggest a way to remove the agitator coupling? Thanks, Alta

Answer

Hello Alta, Start the screw into the coupler through the hole in the agitator like you were going to install it. Instead of tightening it down, only start the screw into the screw hole and reach in with a long piece of wood such as a piece of an old broom handle and hit it with a hammer. This should pop the coupler from the agitator. Now remove the screw and the agitator should be loose enough to pull from the bottom of the agitator.
