Manufacturer Part Number: WH43X10034

The Agitator Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This essential component is responsible for moving clothes during the wash cycle, ensuring thorough cleaning by continually shifting the laundry within the drum. The agitator's design includes fins or vanes that help to circulate water and detergent through the clothes, effectively removing dirt without causing excessive wear to the fabric.

Symptoms of a bad Agitator Assembly include:

  • The agitator not moving or only moving weakly during the wash cycle.
  • Unusual noises like grinding or thumping indicating mechanical issues.
  • Clothes coming out still dirty or less clean than expected, suggesting insufficient agitation.
  • The top portion of the agitator moving independently from the base, known as "stripped" agitator dogs.

Causes of a bad agitator can include worn out mechanical parts such as gears or bearings, a damaged drive shaft, or the agitator becoming detached from the transmission due to loosening of the securing bolt.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models,

Pro Tip: When replacing the agitator, also consider replacing the agitator coupling (WH49X10042).

Ryan for Model Number WJSR4160G2WW

The agitator Assembly, It seems the top half spins one direction but not the other. There also sounds like something rattling in there when I shake it. The agitator coupling seems to be in good shape. Also when the assembly is on the shaft there is some play back and forth and while the washer is running it sounds like an unbalanced load in the washer, Not in spin cycle just while agitating. Any help here would be awesome. Maybe the washer tub bearing under the inner tub?

Answer

Hello Ryan, The agitator has a ratcheting device made inside it so it will turn only one way. This is designed like this so the clothes will be properly agitated and produce a proper wash result. It will rattle because of the way it is designed. If the noise bothers you, you can try washing larger loads so it is in the water more. This is the only thing you can do since this apparatus is designed to do what you said it is doing.
