Cornelius for Model Number GSH25SGPASS I got this "unworking" fridge from a neighbor. Using your website, I did some diagnosing and bought a new Main Board for it. When the new Main Board came I read the instructions and came across the cryptic "This step is ONLY applicable...ENCODER models with the following prefix..." I checked my serial #: GF266024. It started with the prefix GF2 which was part of the "included prefixes" but I didn't know how to determine if my side-by-side unit was an "ENCODER" model. How does one tell if they have an "ENCODER" model? My wiring did not look like the wiring in the instructions: the white wire at J2 was not a jumper nor was it attached to a big cylindrical unit with two wires coming out of it. It is a single white wire. I couldn't find any info as to what an "ENCODER" model meant. So, I carefully removed the wire and connector pin from the connector in case I later learned what "ENCODER" meant and that my unit was NOT required to have the wire at J2 cut. After installing the Main Board with the J2 wire removed the unit worked well (almost too well). The freezer works just fine nice and cold on 7. But the fridge part stays at 20* to 30* no matter what the temp is set to. 1 to 9 it stays a steady slightly below freezing (which kind of works for me as it's in the garage and usually holds beer, wine, and leftovers. This week, someone left the freezer door open and the unit got heavily coated in ice and the fridge temp went into the 50* range. I decided it was a good time to give it a "Spring Cleaning" and let it defrost. I unplugged it and gave it a good bath. I let it dry overnight and decided to re-visit the "ENCODER" question again. How can I tell if my side-by-side unit is a ENCODER model? What will happen if I plug the white wire back into the J2 pin on the connector? Do the symptoms of having the fridge side stay extra cold make sense if the J2 wire is pulled from a non-ENCODER model unit? Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Answer Cornelius, This is not an encoder model refrigerator and will not need to do any additional steps other than plugging in the connectors and turning on the unit. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Wednesday, May 18, 2022
