Cainon for Model Number PSF26PGTAWW GE profile side by side psf26pgta ww. I am having defrost issues. It appears that my freezer is not defrosting properly and causing air flow to not properly cool the top of the freezer causing the ice in the ice maker bin to melt just enough to re freeze into a blob and the to track to not fully freeze. I checked the defrost heater with a meter and am getting 22 ohms resistance but the heater tube is scorched looking and the element spring is wet and distorted on one side. Can they read correctly on ohms and not function properly? The frost on the coils started about 8" above the heater almost like it was turning on but barely getting warm. I just ordered a new heater from here (it's removed now and I'm not putting it back in damaged) and put a defrost thermostat in a week ago. The freezer functioned perfectly for almost a week until it frosted back up. Is there anything else I can check before replacing the control board of the new heater doesn't do it? Thanks.
Answer Hello Cainon. Test the heater for continuity. Should read closed. If not, it is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
