Dawn for Model Number GSS25QSTASS The actual temperatures are much warmer (about 30 degrees warmer) than the set temperatures. We called a repairman and he came out and within 10 seconds they said we needed a new defrost system. I was just reading all the information about parts and possible fixes and it looks like we might be able to fix this ourselves. Do you think so?
Answer Hello Dawn, This is not a difficult repair. Turn off power to the refrigerator, remove the shelves, and remove the rear wall of the freezer. You will need to use a hair dryer to melt all of the frost from the coils. Do not touch the coils or try to hammer or chisel the frost/ice away as this can destroy the refrigerator. Place a rag or towel over the defrost drain hole at the bottom to prevent anything dropped such as screws from entering the small opening should they be dropped. Remove the two screws from the heater bracket WR51X10055 and disconnect the two wires. Replace the heater assembly in the reverse order. Allow 24 hours for the unit to drop back to normal operating temperature before trusting it with anything with live bacteria such as dairy products. Read More...
