Manufacturer Part Number: WR17X11457

This helix is the plastic spiral inside the refrigerator's ice bucket that works with the auger to move ice toward the crusher and dispenser. Replacing a worn or broken helix restores smooth ice dispensing and reduces jams.

  • Surrounds the auger shaft in the ice bucket to advance cubes toward the crusher/chute
  • Engages when the dispenser is activated to feed ice consistently
  • Replace if cracked, stripped, or warped
  • Symptoms may include little or no ice dispensing, intermittent dispensing, or grinding noises from the bucket
What's included: One helix Installation notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator and wear cut-resistant gloves; crusher blades are sharp
  • Remove and empty the ice bucket; note the order/orientation of blades, spacers, and washers during disassembly
  • Transfer components to the new helix in the same sequence; reuse existing hardware
  • After reassembly, verify the auger turns smoothly by hand before reinstalling and testing

Answer

Brenda, Changing the helix can be done but you will want to mark the parts as removed, especially the crusher blades. You will first remove the base of the bin by taking out 2 screws on each side of the bin. When you get removed you will turn the bin over and remove the screw holding the rod in place, paying close attention to the spring and how it is installed. Once this is done flip the bin back over and remove the auger from the housing by releasing the clips on the front of the bin housing top where the crusher housing goes into the bin. Once this is done remove the E clip and take the cover off. You will then need to remove the crusher blades making sure you mark them as they come off. Once that is done you can remove the helix and replace then reassemble the unit.
