Brenda for Model Number PSS26MSWASS Is the helix the plastic part that supports the "forward" part of the auger? The plastic part which the ice actually travels through on its way through the crusher? How hard is that to replace? A repairman told me it was next to impossible and would take at least three hours. Is this true? Do you have detailed directions or a video for replacing whichever part it is that I am talking about? (Plastic cup at front of auger)
Answer Brenda, Changing the helix can be done but you will want to mark the parts as removed, especially the crusher blades. You will first remove the base of the bin by taking out 2 screws on each side of the bin. When you get removed you will turn the bin over and remove the screw holding the rod in place, paying close attention to the spring and how it is installed. Once this is done flip the bin back over and remove the auger from the housing by releasing the clips on the front of the bin housing top where the crusher housing goes into the bin. Once this is done remove the E clip and take the cover off. You will then need to remove the crusher blades making sure you mark them as they come off. Once that is done you can remove the helix and replace then reassemble the unit. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Friday, June 27, 2014
