Jordan M for Model Number Ge JB940B Y2BB All four of my burners work in the high position but as soon as you turn them down they begin to cycle from high to nothing. You can hear something clicking on and off. I assume this is some kind of protection from runaway heating. I am not sure where to start.
Answer Jordan, All electric range infinite switches "cycle" off and on. On older "current sensitive type" switches, there is a bi metal switch that reacts to the amperage and opens and closes(the click noise), the L2 to H2 circuit, based on the heat selection made. The newer e "voltage sensitive" type switches cycle both the L1 to H1 and the L2 to H2 circuits, through the resistor/bi metal. It actually sounds like all's OK. You may want to review the use and care manual, and check the bottom of the pots and pans for smooth even bottoms, so you get an efficient heat transfer to the pot from the burner, for proper, efficient cooking performance and results.
