The Round Style Oven or Broiler Igniter is an OEM replacement part for GE gas ranges and cooktops. It has a round design and is responsible for reliably igniting the gas burners with each use.  Range: 2.5 to 3.0 amps. 

Causes of a bad igniter can include wear and tear from repeated heating and cooling cycles, damage or defects in the electrical components, or issues arising from long-term exposure to high heat.

Symptoms of a bad igniter include: 

  • Difficulty starting or unreliable ignition of gas burners  
  • Burners failing to ignite with the press of the control knob
  • Intermittent ignition problems
  • Clicking sounds but no ignition

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Answer

Lary, with the power turned off to the wall oven, the oven racks would need to be removed. Once the oven racks are removed, there will be two screws in the back of the floor panel that would need to be taken out. From there, the floor panel will lift up at the back, slide slightly towards the rear panel, and then the entire floor panel should lift up and out. The original ignitor, once removed from the burner, will need to have the wires cut about 1" from the ignitor. The wires would then need to be stripped by about the same length as the new ignitor's bared wires. There should be two ceramic wire nuts that came with the new ignitor that would need to be used to secure the ignitor wires to the original wires.
