Doris for Model Number 8117278510 Kenmore gas range The oven does not ignite, but the sove toep works. If I need an ignitor switch, where is it located and is it safe for my husband to connect it. Do we need to turn the gas off firs? Thank you.
Answer Doris, Your model number is not correct, but in general, Replacing an oven burner igniter is a relatively easy repair for the average DIY'r. In most cases, you remove the oven door and oven racks. Remove the bottom panel in the oven , remove the flame spreader attached to the burner tube. Turn the oven on and observe the igniter, it should glow red and in 30 to 60 seconds, it should be glowing "white hot". if theres no glow, or the glow never gets white hot, you'd have a weak or broken igniter and will need to replace it.
