Stacy A. for Model Number JGBP24GEV4WH When we set the oven to bake it seems the bottom portio of the oven flames up as it should however at no point does the top portion. What part may need replacing? Secondly, is it normal to smell a small amount of gas when opening the oven door when not using the stove or oven? I really don't want to replace the appliance if we can help it.
Answer Hello Stacy. The top burner should not lite unless the unit is set to broil. If it does not work in the broil cycle, Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter WB2X9154 will need to be replaced. You should not smell raw gas inside the unit when not in use, the gas valve may be leaking. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
