Liz for Model Number JGBP35WEV4WW

Hi, I found you on YouTube re: GE XL Gas Oven not lighting and how to fix. Great info! My oven is not heating. The broiler works, though, with a yellow glowing round cylinder-shaped igniter to it. Will this igniter for the broiler going to die soon, as the oven already has? Does the part Oven or Broiler Igniter Round work for either the oven or the broiler? Do I need a different part for the Oven to heat? Thank you very much for your help. You have a terrific site and helped already in locating where I'd find the Model/Serial numbers.

Answer

Hello Liz, The bake burner is troubleshot the same way as the broil burner is. The only difference is where it is mounted. This model uses the same ignitor for the broil burner as it does for the bake. The possibilities are the ignitor, the safety valve and the burner. The most common failure on the gas units is the ignitor. This can be checked with a clamp on amp meter TJCL1100. It has to pull 2.8 to 3.2 amps to open the gas valve. This is a bit less resistance than the flat ignitors, so a bit less current will be drawn. If it doesn't pull enough amperage, the ignitor WB2X9154 has failed. If it pulls enough amperage and still doesn't ignite, the safety valve WB19K14 has failed. If the valve opens and you can hear the gas coming in but it doesn't light, the burner WB16K22 is at fault.
