The GE Refrigerator Water Filter RPWFE is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This advanced water filter is crucial for removing contaminants and impurities from your refrigerator's water supply, ensuring you have access to clean, fresh-tasting drinking water and ice. Utilizing a state-of-the-art filtration process, the RPWFE filter is capable of reducing various contaminants, including lead, chlorine, and five pharmaceuticals, providing peace of mind about the quality of your water.

Over time, water filters can become clogged with particles and contaminants, leading to a decrease in water flow and a reduction in the effectiveness of filtration. It's important to replace your refrigerator water filter as recommended by the manufacturer, typically every six months, to ensure optimal performance and maintain the quality of your water.

Symptoms of a filter needing replacement include:

  • Reduced water flow from the dispenser.
  • Unpleasant taste or odor in the water or ice.
  • The refrigerator's water filter indicator light turns on

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Lou for Model Number PYE22KSKBSS

Is there an alternate source/brand for the insanely expensive GE RPWFE water filter. I am aware of the RFID chip on those filters. For the high quality water in my city a built in 6 month replacement cycle is an overkill. Is there any workaround for resetting the cycle to say 9 months. Are the RFID chips unique to each specific filter, i.e. does the refrigerator control recognize a specific filter or just that a correct filter is in place? I suspect there are 1,000s of irritated GE customers (never again) out here with similar questions. Thanks

Answer

Lou, The RPWFE - RFID filter uses radio frequency identification (RFID) to detect leaks and monitor the filter status. The filter indicator cannot be reset manually if you choose not to replace the filter. The chip is used to communicate with the dispenser control board, and you'll need to replace the filter or deal with the change filter indicator. You may want to review the internet for sites like [www.discountfilters.com] for replacement filters. Thanks,
