Kevin for Model Number GSH22JSTDSS My start relay is giving me continuity and none when I flip it over but it's giving me 6 ohms resistence and then when I flip it over my multimeter says 1. Does that sound like the relay is defective and needs to be replaced? Otherwise, I can test to see if power is getting to the compressor but what setting am I using on my meter?
Answer Hello Kevin, The test for the start relay is to remove it from the compressor and shake it. If the ceramic disc inside has shattered, you will hear it rattle and it will need to be replaced. If it does not rattle, it is good and you should test the overload. It should read the same resistance as when the meter leads are touched directly together. When testing for voltage at the compressor you will be looking for 120Vac. This will be on the lead to the overload, not the relay. Read More...
