Kathleen G for Model Number JVM1750DP2WW My GE over the range microwave is 9 mo. old. Two weeks ago I put a cup of water in it to warm and the microwave made a very low rumble-like a small engine plane. GE sent out a repair man on 5/9/13 who removed the front part of the control, replaced the fuse. He then clipped what I think was a "+" and "-" clips to the coil, turned it on for a second and the sound occurred. He immediately shut it off and told me he needed to "replace all the electrical components because there was a short somewhere". I said that I would be left with only a plastic box and if there was a short, I should get a new microwave. Response was that they are not in the business of replacing appliances, but fixing them. Are you able to give me and idea of what the parts would cost and if this even seems feasible? Thank you so very much.
Answer Kathleen, It may not necessarily be a short in the system. When there is a component that fails, certain ones can cause the unit to make noises. It could just be a bad diode, transformer or it could be another component but these are the most likely when having this type of noise. Read More...
