Seth Mitchell for Model Number JVM6175DF1BB

Some of the keys on my Key Panel no longer work. These include cancel, Start, numbers 6,7,8,9. and a couple others. In looking online people have suggested both the Main controller board or the actual key panel may be bad. Which do you suggest replacing? Inside the control housing was a troubleshooting guide that said how to test the Key Panel but it showed test points labeled like 4-11 or 3-13 and I couldn't decipher it. Much thanks.

Seth, The test points for the keypad would be the end of the ribbon cable that plugs into the control. It does sound more likely to be the keypad with the key pattern that is not working.

Hello Sharon-Lynn, You should check the cavity TCO WB27X11094. If it is not open, check the door switches before replacing the control board again in case they were responsible for the failure, if the board is indeed bad again.

Jaime, typically, there is a micro door switch that has failed, if you can find a tech sheet somewhere inside the Mw, it should show the position of the switches, how they are mounted and whether they are naturally open or closed. The main control board can cause the situation you are talking about, it could be a stuck relay on the control.

Saj, To remove the control board, disconnect power supply, once power supply is disconnected remove the air grill at the top of the unit by taking out 3 screws located on the top of the unit. Once removed you will then see a screw that holds the control panel in place. Remove the screw and lift the control panel off. This gives access to the control board to replace it.

Kathleen G for Model Number JVM1750DP2WW

My GE over the range microwave is 9 mo. old. Two weeks ago I put a cup of water in it to warm and the microwave made a very low rumble-like a small engine plane. GE sent out a repair man on 5/9/13 who removed the front part of the control, replaced the fuse. He then clipped what I think was a "+" and "-" clips to the coil, turned it on for a second and the sound occurred. He immediately shut it off and told me he needed to "replace all the electrical components because there was a short somewhere". I said that I would be left with only a plastic box and if there was a short, I should get a new microwave. Response was that they are not in the business of replacing appliances, but fixing them. Are you able to give me and idea of what the parts would cost and if this even seems feasible? Thank you so very much.

1 Answer

Kathleen, It may not necessarily be a short in the system. When there is a component that fails, certain ones can cause the unit to make noises. It could just be a bad diode, transformer or it could be another component but these are the most likely when having this type of noise.
