Vineyridge for Model Number PTS25LHSARWW I believe that I need to replace the temperature sensors and maybe the fans in this 1990s refrigerator. The freezer will cool to -7 degrees when it is set to -1; the refrigerator will go as low as 36 and as high as 38, both per the temperature set panel in the refrigerator section. The evaporator fan can make terrible noises, but that is caused by ice. If the freezer is packed too full or if the door doesn't make a good seal, the evaporator fan can be heard two rooms away from the kitchen. When I clean out the freezer and put a hair dryer against the back wall and the bottom vents, the noise goes away. I have replaced both door gaskets in the past four months, and both seem to be sealing well unless there is food preventing a full door closure. My question is simply, how do I remove the covers on the walls of this unit? There are some screws on the back wall, but the ice maker, which has never been used will have to come out. There is also a plastic "tower" on the back wall which attaches to a plastic cover on the roof of the freezer which contains the light but covers other things as well. The freezer sensor is under a plastic cover on the right side of the freezer and is supposed to have a screw, but I haven't been able to find it. Can you give me some instructions on how to access the evaporator fan and the freezer sensor in this GE Profile model?
Answer Vineyridge, The first thing is remove the icemaker, then remove the light lens and screws under the lens and drop the cover down. Then remove the tower in the back of the unit and the screws from the back wall. Once they are removed you will be able to remove the rear wall of the freezer. The biggest thing with this problem is overloading the freezer. You will want to make sure that the freezer is not being overloaded and causing the door to be pushed open. Read More...
