Answer John, As in most cases, you'll have a louder operating noise level from a half full container than you would with a totally full container. There are several possibilities, the noise could be an expansion rattle from the heater or the internal vent system. When the noise is present, place your hands on various areas of the cabinet. Check the belt and the drive pulley for debris and cracks or missing treads from the belt surface. Check the rollers and idler pulley for the same, Clean and lube the shafts and rollers as necessary to help reduce the possibility of a dry, noisy, suspension system that's transferring the noise to the cabiner and base.
