The Belt is an OEM replacement part for LG dryers that is responsible for connecting the motor to the drum to allow it to tumble. Over time, dryer belts can stretch, wear out, or even break, leading to a drum that won't turn and clothes that don't dry properly.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Belt include:

  • The dryer motor running but the drum not turning.
  • A squealing or thumping noise coming from the dryer.
  • The dryer not starting at all.

Causes of failure can include regular wear and tear from the dryer's operation, overloading the dryer beyond its capacity, which puts extra strain on the belt, or a misalignment that causes uneven wear. A damaged belt can prevent your dryer from functioning correctly, leading to inefficiency in drying clothes and potential motor damage due to unnecessary strain.

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

OldHandyGuy, I would check the idler pulley, belt, and rollers for wear and/or damage. Then replace as needed, make sure the belt is routed correctly on the pulleys.

John, You will want to check the rollers on the unit which will be the most likely cause for the vibration. Also check the idler pulley and the blower housing to make sure that there is no issue with the blower assembly.

John, As in most cases, you'll have a louder operating noise level from a half full container than you would with a totally full container. There are several possibilities, the noise could be an expansion rattle from the heater or the internal vent system. When the noise is present, place your hands on various areas of the cabinet. Check the belt and the drive pulley for debris and cracks or missing treads from the belt surface. Check the rollers and idler pulley for the same, Clean and lube the shafts and rollers as necessary to help reduce the possibility of a dry, noisy, suspension system that's transferring the noise to the cabiner and base.
