Leo for Model Number LG direct drive front load Heard a snap sound followed by electrical burn smell, found the noise filter faulty by checking filter fuse. Ordered exact OEM replacement EAM60991301 .before installing i checked incoming voltage to be 120v at the filter connector.Installed the new filter and plugged unit in to see filter fault out. New filter also now shows open circuit across fuse. My question is, could a faulty main board cause this filter to short out? Does the filter not simply protect the unit from a power surge along with controlling the frequency noise? I rang out the hot and neutral lines from 120 v plug straight through to circuit board with no ground faults or open curcuits? What else could cause filter to fault out? Now removed main board and found fuse ok with no visable board burn marks? Not sure about now purchasing another filter and possibly main board.
Answer Leo, The filter board is not protecting the unit from a surge but is there to clean up any line noise that may come in through the power lines. Check for wiring that may be damaged and if there is not any damaged wiring then the main control board would likely be the issue. Read More...
