Tom for Model Number RFG238AARS/XAA Ice Maker (DA97-07592A) stopped working. It is making a "hooting" noise like an owl about once per second. Stops sometimes and then starts up hour or two later. I turned off the ice maker because sound is annoying! Removed ice maker. Initial diagnosis: Motor unable rotate paddles to empty ice tray. Found ice cubes fully formed frozen solid in the tray. Took end cover off and disassembled motor. Expected to find several teeth on large drive get shared off. No, it is in perfect condition! No sign of any mechanical problem. Next idea: Heater not working to slightly melt cubes so they could be pushed out. Checked continuity of heater element. Yes, it has continuity, not burned out. Next thought: What controls the heater element to cause it to turn on? There is a small circuit board next to the motor, does that control the heater? Or is the master control board involved? I hope not. Please help. Thanks.
Answer Hello Tom, the ice maker is monitored and controlled by the main control board, there is a test button (forced manual harvest) button on the side of the ice maker, if it failed the test cycle then replace the ice maker before the main board.
