Kate for Model Number RF217ACPN/XAA I just received this part to replace my icemaker. I got the old one out, no problem. I plugged the new one in but I cannot get the unit to slide into the brackets/knobs that are hanging down towards the back of the freezer. It appears there is some kind of yellow hard substance around the top of them. Do I try to remove this? I don't want to damage anything. I can't figure why else it won't slide in to the brackets. The part is identical to the original. Thank you.
Answer Kate, the yellow substance is going to be insulation. This insulation can be carefully cut flush to assist with allowing the ice maker to set onto the mounting brackets. However, when installing the ice maker, ensuring the ice maker is as far forward as possible before pushing back can help with installation rather than removing any insulation. Read More...
