Hello Jeff, If you splice the wires you will need to make sure the black wires are spliced in properly so the valves operate as designed and do not cause a new problem. Without these, when the icemaker cycles, there is the possibility that the dispenser can have water come out. The black wires have to be connected to the wires they are connected to in the connectors to prevent this issue.
