Bill for Model Number Maytag SAV3655AWW I'm pretty handy as I used to be a Maint. Asst. Super for a 300 townhouse complex. Our 8 year old Maytag washer squealed loudly in the basement and we thought it was a car in the neighborhood. When I went downstairs to check on the laundry I saw smoke in the laundry room and the washer motor was running but no action. I've noted that the motor still runs and moving the clock dial I got the pump to empty the water out of the tub but no agitation or spinning is happening any more. I assume the spin belt is fried. How big a deal is it to replace that belt and how about the idler wheel that presses against the belt? Do you suppose that would be damaged also? Can I test that the trans is not the problem without a belt on there? Any info/help is greatly appreciated. :)
Answer Hello Bill. Try turning the pulley and see if the tub spins. If not, the bearings locked down and you will need to replace the belt, pulley, and bearing kit in the unit to repair it. This is an involved job due to the fact the washer will have to be completely tore down and reassembled. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Friday, August 2, 2013
