The Shift Actuator is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is an electronic component located inside the transmission that controls the shifting between wash cycles. The shift actuator receives signals from the washer control board to change modes, initiating proper movements to advance the cycle.

Symptoms of a bad shift actuator include:

  • The washer fails to advance through cycles properly
  • Gets stuck in one phase of the wash cycle
  • Makes abnormal noises during operation
  • Does not agitate or spin as expected

Over time, environmental factors and normal wear and tear can cause the shift actuator to malfunction.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This new version of the part features a redesigned black plastic housing with an adapter wire harness. It replaces the older version that came in red plastic. The new part is guaranteed to fit and function like the original.

Duc for Model Number MVWC360AW0

Hello, I have fault codes F2E1 and F7E1. My googling leads me to believe I need a new actuator, but I’m wondering if it’s the main control board. I performed the “tachometer test” and the lights flashed accordingly so it appears the tachometer is working properly. The machine will rinse and spin multiple times while in the spin cycle, only to have the lid locked light start flashing and the load won’t finish. It does seem like it’s spinning at high speeds for a bit, the problem is it keeps filling/rinsing and draining/spinning during the spin cycle and won’t complete the wash unless I cancel and manually set to rinse and spin. Also, it doesn’t appear to delete the codes whenever I hold the start button down to exit diagnostic mode. Thanks in advance, Duc

Answer

Hello Duc, in the wash cycle the control board is monitoring the motor operation, the repeat rinse/spin cycles indicate the board is detecting a problem with the basket reaching the correct spin speed as compared to the amount of power it is sending to the motor. It thinks there is an unbalanced load, or excess suds dragging the basket speed down and trying to clear it. If it is not an unbalance, no excess suds, check if a rag has gotten between the tubs.
