Because the hose is so short (before purchasing, I was told it was 6 feet and it is only 4) it is very tautly horizontal and not close to the standpipe so I don't know if a ziptie would work.
Answer Margarett, The reason for not having the drain hose pushed more than 4 inches into the standpipe is because it will allow an air gap between the water that is already trapped in the standpipe and the hose.
