Mike S. for Model Number Maytag - LAT9457AAM On the above washing machine the agitator seems to work intermittently. There is also an occasional smell of what I think is burning rubber. When the agitator is not working, the motor seems to be running fine. The machine will spin out fine and is pumping out all the water fine. Though the motor gets hot (probably normal), it seems to be running fine. Also about ten days ago the agitator shaft came loose so that I was able to pull the agitator completely out of the machine. I reseated the agitator and seems to be holding fine now. I suspect that the motor to transmission belt may be stretched and in need of replacement. Thank you for your help.
