Julie for Model Number K5SSWH I recently acquired a kitchen aid mixer that makes a "grinding" noise when you turn it on and barely has enough power to turn the planetary. I have taken apart the mixer already and replaced the grease on all the gears (all are in perfect condition). I was able to turn both the ventilation fan and the motor shaft freely by hand with mixer unplugged to check for a bend in the fan blades or a bend in the shaft that would be producing the "grinding" noise or that could be causing the motor to bind up. With the mixer plugged in and turned on the motor heats up fast (less than 30secs) ..my question is weather the brushes are bad (there is some carbon streaks on the armature) or if it is a wiring issue that is causing the motor to not get enough power?
Answer Julie, You will want to clean up the brushes to see how worn they are but you will also want to check the speed plate to make sure that it is properly adjusted and check the governor to make sure that it is not bad. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, July 29, 2013
