Dick for Model Number Maytag MAH55FLBWW My washer door won't lock. When I push the start button, I hear the lock mechanism try to engage, then it disengages about a second later (two loud clicking sounds). With the door unlocked, obviously the machine won't operate. Is it likely that I need a new door latch assembly ( #WP22003593 )?
Answer Dick, the door latch solenoid more than likely has failed (door is fully shut and the hook is not bent). The solenoid can be tested and should measure within 30 to 100O. In regards to the latch used, if the serial number of your appliance starts with 17 or less, the latch WP22003593 would be used.
