The Temperature Switch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool front-load washing machines. Located inside the unit, it monitors water temperatures during heating cycles.

Causes of a bad temperature switch can include failure or drift of internal components that monitor heat over extended use. Exposure to fluctuations in water temperatures during wash cycles may also impact switch performance.

Symptoms of a bad temperature switch can be:

  • Inability to heat water to set temperatures
  • Unexpected fluctuations in water temperature during cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore front-load washing machines.

When I pull the timer switch it will not fill with water. If I advance the timer it will start to agitate. I have replaced the timer and the water valve with negative results. The lid switch is working and I'm getting power to the hot and cold contacts at the water valve. I'm not getting power to the two contacts just below the hot and cold valves on the water valve, which I believe will allow the water to flow. I even filled the tub with water to see if it would start the agitator with negative results. Should I replace the water sensor AP44596660? By the way GREAT web site, I will recommend to all. Your videos and parts delivery are also fantastic. Pat

Answer

Hello Pat, Sounds like a pressure switch has failed or the pressure switch hose is clogged. Remove the pressure switch hose from the sensor switch and blow through it. If it was clogged, you will feel the clog "pop" free. If this is the case, you should then run a sanitation cycle (normal wash cycle) with hot water and white vinegar to remove any other sedimentation and mineral deposits before washing any more clothes. If not, the sensor switch WPW10248240 should be replaced to correct the issue.
