Neal for Model Number LAT9356AAE I just installed the tub bearing kit, the mounting stem kit, replaced the shaft lip seal, and re-filled the transmission with gear lube. Everything is working fine except that there is a loud howling sound when in spin cycle. Is this bearing the likely culprit?
Answer Neal, There are a couple of things to recheck and check. Are you sure you removed all of the original sleeve/race from the top of the transmission case ? Did you apply approximately 1/4 teaspoon of turbine oil to the bearing and race and did you over torque the tub mounting seal when you put the machine back together ? The stem only needs to be hand tight as possible, then tap the spanner wrench with a hammer or a "balled" fist, then set the set screw. Since you needed the bearing and seal kit, you probably had a leak, you'll want to remove the front panel, put the washer in a spin cycle and carefully listen, to see if the noise is coming from the lower portion of the base/cabinet under the machine. If the leak was large or it leaked for a while the lubricant in the lower brake package bearing WP22003441 was flushed out and you'll need to replace it. Read More...
