Todd, A glass of icewater coldest temp will not be cold enough for the thermostat to close. On the side of the thermostat there are numbers on it and one of them is the temp that the thermostat closes and the higher number will be the temp that the thermostat will open. If you are not getting it to that temp which is normally 15.6 degrees then the thermostat will not close. Put the thermostat in the freezer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours if the unit is operating at the moment and then test the thermostat.
