Todd H for Model Number GR2FHTXTQ00 PS1799717. Model number for defrost thermostat. I have checked this thermsostat for continuity while it is warm and while cold. Both tests show an open condition. No continuity. Because the part tested bad I had three thermostats sent out. All of them check out bad. I put one them in a glass of ice water and froze them solid. Still no continuity. Why?
Answer Todd, A glass of icewater coldest temp will not be cold enough for the thermostat to close. On the side of the thermostat there are numbers on it and one of them is the temp that the thermostat closes and the higher number will be the temp that the thermostat will open. If you are not getting it to that temp which is normally 15.6 degrees then the thermostat will not close. Put the thermostat in the freezer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours if the unit is operating at the moment and then test the thermostat. Read More...
