Joseph for Model Number GEQ9800LWI The rear of the heater box has a tab on it , what is this for? How does the rear of the heater box attach to the rear exhaust tube?
Answer Joseph, The heater box W10802681 usually isn't removed from the dryer, the heater and thermostats can be removed without removal of the heater box. But the heater box is inserted into the opening in the inlet duct, the tab serves two purposes, it keeps the heater box from intruding into the inlet duct and causing an air flow, heat problem. The tab has a hole so there can be a self tapping screw installed if needed. Once you remove power and the lower front panel Remove the hex-head screw from the heater shield and remove the shield. Remove the two wires from the terminal block. Remove the hex-head screw from the heater housing, and slide the heater out of the duct. Disconnect the wires from the high limit thermostat or the thermal cutoff. Remove the two hex-head screws.Once you have removed the heater assembly from the box, there is a single 1/4 inch, hex head screw in the bottom of the box, the attaches the box to the support, remove the screw and you can slide the box out of the cabinet.
