Ben for Model Number Maytag washer A606 this is my BRAKE ASSEMBLY >>>> http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-brake-asse-6-2011900-ap4373089.html is it supposed to have OIL in it ??? it has a gasket like an auto transmission case... and it HAD OIL IN IT before I cleaned it, but now I am wondering if the squeaking is the brake shoes needing OIL. What viscosity oil & how to put it back in ?
Answer Ben, If your brake package WP6-2011900 is the original equipment, it is slightly different that the photo of the more recent version, and a little easier to work with. Yes, the brake package is a "wet" brake system and does get lubricated if the brake starts to squeak. You lubricate the brake with one(1) teaspoon of Maytag transmission lube, or 90 weight gear oil will also work. you can use a teaspoon to install the oil. put the brake package on it's side. place the spoon into and against the brake rotor, tilt the spoon up and allow the oil to trickle over the rolled edge of the outer ring(stator). let the brake package set for a few minutes to allow the oil to equalize and distribute evenly throughout the package. Once the package is installed and the washer is level, put the timer in the final spin and start the cycle, lift the lid a few times so the tub stops spinning, this will help distribute the oil and help the cork core absorb the oil.
