Mike for Model Number lat9804aae Our Maytag washing machine has severed us faithfully for 14 years now but the other day my wife called me & the kitchen floor was full of water. I took the front cover of the washer off & discovered the tub seal was leaking so I replaced the top & bottom seal. After putting it back together the washer doesn't leak but now it won't spin. We had an episode of this a week before the washer ran water on the floor. The belt was burning & I told my wife to cut it off. When I got upstairs it started up & ran fine till the water incident the next week. After the seal kit installation the pulley underneath seems hard to turn clockwise & it turns the whole tub & agitator. When I turn the pulley underneath counter clock wise it does nothing. The agitator & the tub just sits there. My fear is that the transmission has gone bad but could it be the brake/clutch assembly or just a tub bearing. Lastly I followed a you tube video on how to install the seals. Is it possible that I could have done something to cause this problem from the seal installation? I don't want to keep throwing good money into the machine if it can't be fixed at a reasonable cost.
Answer Hello Mike. Check and make sure the seals are installed properly. If so, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the transmission 6-2097750 may be bad and will need to be replaced. Make sure the brake assembly is releasing properly. If so, you will need to replace the transmission. Hope this helps. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Wednesday, September 14, 2011
